At the first of the month, Kaden turned 8. For his birthday I made him a soccer cake with fondant and everything.
I made a 9 X 13 cake and a cake in a glass bowl.
I froze those cakes overnight.
Then I made marshmallow fondant* , and butter cream frosting.
I cut out 6 blue pentagons, and 9 white hexagons. I then assembled as shown.
Next I put a piece of green fondant on the "base" cake and stuck the soccer ball on top.
To add a more "real" look, I took a piping bag and piped grass all over it. I just covered it with a box, and we ate it the next day!
* Marshmallow Fondant
1 bag of Kraft Large Marshmallows
1 32 oz. bag of C&H Powdered Sugar
(You can't use generic brand of either of these.)
First sift the bag of powdered sugar onto a counter or table. (ungreased)
Grease a large microwavable bowl and put the whole bag of marshmallows into it.
Microwave on high for 30-40 seconds. Then dump the melted marshmallows onto the powdered sugar mound. Knead like bread dough until most little sugar lumps have disappeared. (If needed you can add a little water to make wetter, and more sugar to make dryer.) Dye as needed, and store in a ziplock bag. It's super fun to make and lasts a long time.
